Dubai Self-Driving Strategy

As part of Dubai’s Smart City strategy, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced a goal that “by 2030, 25% of all transportation trips in Dubai will be smart and driverless”. As part of RTA’s SDT strategy and roadmap, the Authority launched in 2018 a worldwide platform: Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport.

Participation Criteria:

  • Participants include established solution providers with market-ready solutions or local academia
  • Participants must ensure that the proposed solutions align with the strategic pillars of challenge’s theme: integration, intelligence & sustainability
    At least one connectivity solution for the smart integrated infrastructure with focus on Vehicle to Everything (V2X): Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle to Network (V2N), Vehicle to Pedestrian (V2P), Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I), etc.
  • Proposed solutions must include at least one use case related to self-driving technology (meet at least SAE Level 3 of autonomy)
  • Participants can propose integration with existing operational city infrastructure as part of the final deployment plan
  • Proposed solutions must be scalable and adaptable to support Dubai’s future urban mobility expansion
