Mohammed Hikmet, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of HMI Technologies Group and Ohmio, is an influential leader in the global Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) industry. With decades of extensive experience, Mohammed has consistently championed integrating advanced technology in transportation, enhancing safety, sustainability, and efficiency worldwide.
As Executive Chairman, Mohammed has forged numerous global strategic partnerships, reinforcing HMI Group’s position as a pioneer in transport innovation. His visionary leadership has propelled HMI Technologies to prominence as a leading developer of ITS solutions, including sophisticated LED motorway signage, intelligent traffic management systems, and other critical transport infrastructure technologies.
Recognizing early the transformative potential of autonomous mobility, Mohammed founded Ohmio in the mid-2010s, becoming a pioneer in autonomous shuttle manufacturing and deployment. Under his leadership, Ohmio achieved international acclaim, successfully implementing autonomous vehicle technology at high-profile locations such as JFK Airport in New York, Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Brussels Airport, and Christchurch International Airport, marking New Zealand’s first deployment of autonomous driving technology. Ohmio vehicles now operate in cities across South Korea, Luxembourg, Italy, the United Kingdom, Finland, and the United States.
Mohammed’s leadership extends beyond his corporate roles. He served passionately for over a decade as Chairman and President of ITS New Zealand, significantly promoting intelligent transport solutions both nationally and internationally. His extensive involvement includes active participation on various ITS World Congress committees, representing New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region, and leading New Zealand’s delegation at the ISO TC204 standards technical committee.
Recognized for his entrepreneurial achievements and industry contributions, Mohammed was named EY New Zealand Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019 and was a World Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in 2020. He continues to advocate for safer, smarter, and more sustainable global transportation.
