Dr. Hany Hassan is currently serving as an associate professor of transportation engineering and the graduate program advisor at the department of civil and environmental engineering, Louisiana State University, USA. He is also a professional engineer in the state of Louisiana and has over 23 years of experience in both industry and academia.

Dr. Hassan’s areas of research include Traffic Safety, Smart/Intelligent Transportation Systems, Emerging Technologies in Transportation Engineering, Human factors and drivers’ behaviors, Traffic Operation and Simulation. Dr. Hassan has published numerous influential papers at the top journals of transportation engineering.

Dr. Hassan has extensive experience of managing numerous projects related to traffic safety, traffic impacts studies, road design, road users’ behaviors, intelligent transportation systems, and applications of connected and autonomous vehicles. With over $6.0 million in funding during his career, Dr. Hassan has led and collaborated on various related projects funded by US DOTs, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), the Transportation Consortium of South-Central States (TranSET), and Louisiana Board of Regents. He has worked previously as projects manager and transportation engineering expert in Saudia Arabia and UAE between 2011 and 2018.

Dr. Hassan is currently serving as a member and the paper review coordinator with two Transportation Research Board (TRB) committees: Intelligent Transportation Systems (ACP15) and Human Factors of Infrastructure Design and Operation (ACH40). He is a Handling Editor at the Journal of Transportation Research Record.
