Yuan Chengyin, born in Beijing in August 1974, is currently acting as Director and General Manager of the National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center, and Secretary-General of the China Automotive Chip Industry Innovation Strategic Alliance.

He majored in Industrial Engineering and Precision Instrumentation at Tsinghua University as an undergraduate and graduate student respectively. He is also a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been devoted to R&D of new energy vehicle technologies as well as the research and management of industrial strategies for long. As an expert on power battery, power system platform, and vehicle integration & control, he has made outstanding contributions to the key technological breakthrough, industrial ecological construction, and innovative exploration and development of technology and management in the new energy vehicle industry. He once served as a Senior Researcher at the General Motors Global R&D, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of Beijing Pride Power System Technology Co., Ltd., Chairman of Beijing Electronics SK Co., Ltd. (BESK), and Deputy General Manager of BAIC BJEV.

He has presided over more than 10 national and local R&D and industrial projects, such as the Beijing Battery Electric Passenger Vehicle Development Project, New Energy Vehicle Battery R&D and Industrialization Project, and the Battery Electric Commercial Vehicle (M3/N3 category) Power System Platform Technology Project, so as to facilitate the development of enterprises, lead the industrial progress, and enhance the core competitiveness of the automotive industry with independent innovation.

As Director and General Manager of the National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center, he led his team to focus on “making breakthrough in key industrial technologies and enhancing the transformation efficiency of technological innovation achievements” according to the operation principles of “joint consultation, joint construction, joint management, sharing, and joint utilization”. Over the past three years, he has made substantial progress in building the platform for transforming technological innovation and application, which is “innovation-oriented, platform-oriented, open, and partner-oriented”.

He has won various honors, including the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award and Outstanding Young Manufacturing Leader Award from the International Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the First Prize of China Automotive S&T Award, the First Prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award, and the First Award of the 23rd National Enterprise Management Modernization Innovation Achievement.

He is one of overseas senior talents introduced by the Beijing Municipal Government, a member of the special expert group for national key new energy technological breakthrough, an expert specially appointed by the Beijing Municipal Government, an expert of the senior professional title review group in Beijing, a senior leading talent of Zhongguancun, the chief expert of BAIC Group, and also the visiting professor of many universities such as Beijing University of Technology.

He has published 1 book, more than 20 papers in well-known academic journals at home and abroad, and obtained more than 30 patents for invention.
